Arianna Huffington
Arianna Stassinopoulos Huffington is a Greek American author syndicated columnist and a businesswoman. She is a co-founder of The Huffington Post the founder and chief executive officer of Thrive Global and the author of 15 books. Arianna Huffington is a philanthropist and author, television personality and owner of the liberally independent online news magazine The Huffington Post. Born in Greece and immigrated to England when she was 16. At Cambridge University, she graduated with a MA in Economics. As the first non-English speaking student, she was elected to the presidency of The Cambridge Union' at age 21. The years that followed the graduation ceremony, she was an important conservative syndicated journalist. Then, a couple of years later, she founded The Huffington Post which featured critiques of the current political climate. Her celebrity status helped her in getting several high-profile contributors to post their views regarding news in the field of culture and politics. Arianna gained fame after she announced in 2003 that she would candidly run as an independent candidate in the California Recall Election in order to replace Governor Davis. In addition to this she was the leader of the Detroit Project for efficient vehicles that use less fuel. In 2009, she was acclaimed by Forbes as The most influential women in media gaining 12th spot on the ranking. In the same year Guardian included her in the top 100 media list. AOL Inc. bought The Huffington Post, and she was made president of this group of media. This included many AOL brands at the time such as Engadget AOL style list and Patch Media. The parents of her were Elli as well as Konstantinos Stasinopoulos who was a management advisor and journalist. Although she was close to her father, it was her bond with her mother, which formed her future. She was a leader even in her early years. The British native moved to England when she was 16, to pursue her education as well as enrolled at Girton College Cambridge. In her college years she joined the Cambridge Union debating group where she went on to become the first female and only president from outside the country. She graduated in 1972 with the degree of Master's in Economics. She was a journalist, a TV host and as a columnist shortly after her graduation. Her appearance on Face the music with Bernard Levin was also a highlight. She began to write books after obtaining his assistance for editing.
